An Amazing Experience in Andaman Langkawi by Lulubelle Klang

Reviewed 2 December 2010
My family and I had a wonderful stay at this beautiful resort situated at Datai Bay. Our 5 day stay ended too fast for our liking and now that I’ve returned to the concrete jungle, I find myself longing for the tranquility and beauty of the surrounding rainforest with its resident Dusky Leaf Monkeys, Colugos (flying lemurs), Hornbills, Black Giant Squirrels, White Bellied Sea Eagles, Bhraminy Kites, Tokay Geckos and so much more. It is my opinion that the Datai Bay beach is the most beautiful and pristine beach on Langkawi - not only is it a white sand beach with clear emerald green waters and a coral reef, but it’s also where the rainforest meets the sea.

I had booked 2 deluxe rainforest rooms for my family of 4 adults and 3 children. We were however upgraded to interconnecting treetops deluxe rooms with partial views of the sea. The rooms were spacious, and we didn’t need to have rollaways for my children as the sofas were converted into beds for all 3 of them. We woke up every morning to a symphony only nature herself could orchestrate, and went to bed every night with the sound of waves crashing upon the beach.

We joined both the complimentary morning and evening nature walks with JungleWalla. During our evening walk our group was delighted and privileged to have seen more than five of the elusive flying lemurs in action. It was truly an amazing sight seeing them glide from tree to tree. On another night my daughter stumbled upon a wild boar just a few feet away from the swimming pool. Indeed, the rainforest around the resort is full of surprises. One should also kayak Datai Bay for a stunning view of the Mat Cincang mountain range from the sea.

We found the staff friendly and helpful. My son fell and hurt his leg and Farida from The Restaurant tried to arrange for the nurse (who was, unfortunately, on emergency leave that day) while Aziman from Concierge personally followed up with my son at the Kids Club to make sure that he was okay and did not require any further medical assistance (I hope I got their names right!). Of course there a few niggling service issues like items requested not arriving on time or not at all (eg. we had to personally obtain toilet paper rolls from one of the housekeeping staff cleaning another room as what we’d requested never arrived).

I would have to agree with many of the reviewers that dining at the resort is very expensive. For our first dinner at the resort, we paid over RM200 at the Beach Bar for a fish we’d booked at the beach (the 4pm Fisherman’s Catch). However the fish wasn’t very fresh and poorly cooked. In comparison we paid the same amount for TWO larger, tastier and most definitely fresher fishes (caught in front of us) at The Hole in the Wall floating restaurant at the Kilim River Geoforest Park. We did however enjoy our meal at The Japanese Restaurant as well as the Seafood BBQ buffet and our breakfasts at The Restaurant.

We truly had an amazing experience at this beautiful resort and would definitely recommend it to anyone wishing to get away from it all.
