Please take good care of your wrist - to avoid Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (GTS)

Please take good care of your wrist while using the keyboard and mouse of your computer.

Long term repetitive action stress can lead to Carpal Tunnel.
You could end up going under a surgery that looks like this:

Exercises for relief from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

While you are receiving treatment for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome regular exercise sessions can help your rapid recovery. We have included some photos and explanations of recommended exercises.
The following exercises may be prescribed by your healthcare provider in conjunction with Low Level Laser therapy. In the photos you will see below, the right wrist is the one being exercised. If your left wrist is affected, do the same exercises with the left hand.

When doing each of these exercises, the hand should be flexed until a sensation of stretching is felt in the arm. The position should be held for 10 to 15 seconds for each of 10 repetitions. Try to this set of exercises three times a day.

Exercises 1 and 2 flex and extend the hand and stretch the wrist. Bend the hand as shown in the photos and apply moderate pressure to it with the other hand.

carpal tunnel syndrome - exercise 1 - wrist flexion
carpal tunnel syndrome - exercise 2 - wrist flexion Exercise 1 - Wrist Flexion  Bend the hand being exercised backward (palm away from you), as shown in the photos. With the fingers of the other hand, apply pressure.

carpal tunnel syndrome - exercise 2 - wrist extention Exercise 2 - Wrist Extension  Bend the hand being exercised forward ( palm toward you), as shown in the photos. With the fingers of the other hand, apply pressure.

Exercises 3 and 4 are similar to 1 and 2 except that an object, such as a pad provides the resistance to the hand, instead of your other hand.

carpal tunnel syndrome - exercise 1 - wrist flexion agains surface Exercise 3 - Wrist Flexion against surface  With your arm held vertically, press your hand, palm down, on a firm surface, as shown in the photo.

carpal tunnel syndrome - exercise 4 - wrist extension against surface Exercise 4 - Wrist Extension against surface  With your arm held vertically, press your hand, palm up, on a firm surface, as shown in the photo.

Exercises 5 and 6 involve the side to side range of motion of the hand.

carpal tunnel syndrome - exercise 5 - radial deviation Exercise 5  - (Radial Deviation)  Place your hand palm downward. Grasp the fingers of the hand to be exercised with your other hand (as shown in the photo) and twist the hand toward you. Keep the hand horizontal.

carpal tunnel syndrome - exercise 6 - ulnar deviation Exercise 6 - (Ulnar Deviation)  Place your hand palm downward. Grasp the fingers of the hand to be exercised with your other hand (as shown in the photo) and twist the hand away from you. Keep the hand horizontal.

Butter Cookies01

Do share these butter cookies with your family or friends. Yes, they are like melting moments. Each bit of the buttery cookies will literally melt in your mouth. It’s hard to stop eating after the first bite. I only make these cookies to bring along for our large social gatherings. Sharing is loving. Each person can only have one or two pieces. Not surprisingly, the whole tray was gone within minutes though.

Butter Cookies (Printable recipe)
By Christine's Recipes
Prep time: 30 mins
Cook time: 15 mins
Yield: 25 pieces

Ingredients:
  • 150 gm plain flour / all-purpose flour
  • 30 gm corn flour / corn starch
  • 20 gm custard powder
  • 160 gm butter, softened at room temperature
  • 50 gm icing sugar
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
How To Make Butter Cookies

Method:
  1. Combine the plain flour, corn flour, custard powder  and baking powder and sift through a sieve. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the butter and icing sugar until fluffy and pale. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  3. Sift in the flour mixture. Beat at low speed with an electric mixer. Remember to scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula. Lightly knead into a dough. Wrap with a plastic film and roll into a tube in 3½cm thickness. Wrap it up and refrigerate for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until it’s workable.
  4. Preheat oven to 180C / 356F. Line two baking trays with baking paper.
  5. Remove the dough from refrigerator. Slice into 1½cm-thick portions. Place each portion in single layer on the lined trays, each at least 3cm apart. Use a lightly greased fork to gently press the small dough. Bake in preheated oven, for about 15 minutes, or until lightly brown. Remove from oven and let them sit for 5 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack until completely cool down.
Butter Cookies02

Notes:
  • If you don’t have two baking trays or your oven is not big enough, you can bake in two batches. Keep the rest of the dough in refrigerator.
  • If the weather is too warm, you find the dough is too greasy. Don’t worry. Just chill the dough for awhile until workable.
  • I love simple cookies with a rustic look. You might like to use a cookies cutter or any moulds to make some delicate patterns on your cookies.

Singapore says it deported 26 Bangladeshis for terror links

Singapore says it deported 26 Bangladeshis for terror links

Singapore disclosed Wednesday it arrested 27 Bangladeshi construction workers late last year for supporting "the armed jihad ideology" of militants like the Islamic State group, and deported 26 of them.
The workers were being groomed to return to their home country to wage holy war and had studied booklets on assassination techniques, the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement.
"They were plotting nefarious activities in Bangladesh and other countries, and not in Singapore. But they were still a serious threat to us," Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said in a Facebook post late Wednesday.
"We are tightening up our security, and acting to protect our racial and religious harmony. Radicalisation and terrorism must never take root in Singapore."
Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam said in an earlier Facebook post that the workers "could have easily changed their minds and attacked Singapore".
Several members of the group also contemplated joining "armed jihad" with the IS group in Iraq and Syria, according to the MHA.
"They supported the armed jihad ideology of terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria," the ministry said in the statement.
The 27 men, aged between 25 and 40, were arrested between November 16 and December 1 last year under Singapore's Internal Security Act.
They all worked in construction in Singapore, where large numbers of labourers mostly from South Asia live in often cramped dormitories.
"The group members took measures to avoid detection by the authorities. They shared jihadi-related material discreetly among themselves, and held weekly meetings and gatherings where they discussed armed jihad and conflicts that involved Muslims," the ministry said, adding that the group was also actively recruiting members.
Of the 27 Bangladeshis arrested, one was not deported and is serving a jail sentence for attempting to flee Singapore after learning about the arrests of the group's members.
He will be repatriated to Bangladesh after he completes his sentence. The man was said not to have been a member of the group but was "in the process of being radicalised".
- 'Silent killings' -
According to the ministry's statement, the group's members were encouraged to return to Bangladesh and "wage armed jihad" against the government there, while some had sent money to terror-linked entities in their country.
The ministry said they possessed radical and jihadi-related materials, including footage of children undergoing training in what appeared to be militant camps.
Excerpts from a video released by the ministry showed young boys dressed in black and wearing white caps firing pistols and automatic rifles during training.
There was also a document entitled "Techniques of Silent Killing" that contained graphic images and instructions on how to carry out assassinations, using different methods and weapon.
The announcement of the arrests came less than a week after militants mounted attacks in the Indonesian capital Jakarta, leaving at least eight people dead, including four suspected attackers.
The IS group claimed responsibility for the coordinated assault on a central thoroughfare in the capital.
Kumar Ramakrishna, a counter-terrorism analyst at Singapore's S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, said the arrests would likely be "disconcerting" to the public as foreign workers have become part of Singapore's social landscape.
"It drives home the point that terrorists can be amongst us and not far away," he told AFP.
Singaporean officials have said that the city-state remains a target by militants because of the presence of a large number of multinational corporations and its status as a regional financial centre.
Authorities in late 2001 foiled an attempt to carry out bomb attacks on US and other foreign targets in the city-state, arresting several suspects in the process.
